Dedrick Williams Files Appeal, Suggests Drake as a Potential Suspect in XXXTentacion Case
The tragic death of rapper XXXTentacion in 2018 shocked the hip-hop community and left fans with unanswered questions.
Despite the conviction of Dedrick Williams and three other men for their involvement in the robbery and fatal shooting, the case is back in the spotlight.
Williams, sentenced to life in prison in 2023, is now challenging his conviction through an appeal, bringing an unexpected twist into the legal proceedings.
In a new filing, Williams' legal team has introduced a new line of argumentation that points to the infamous rapper's alleged conflict with Drake as a possible lead that was never fully investigated.
This claim has sparked new controversy, even though it is not directly accusing the Canadian rapper of being involved in XXXTentacion’s death.

Williams’ lawyer, Mauricio Padilla, argues that his client’s defense has the right to explore any potential leads, no matter how unusual, in order to establish reasonable doubt.
According to Padilla, a defense team is entitled to raise questions about overlooked aspects of the investigation.
"A defendant has every right to defend himself, to show reasonable doubt wherever it may be, and to fully investigate and articulate to a jury an alternate shooter defense or an alternate defense where someone else committed this crime."
Padilla said, The lawyer maintains that he isn’t suggesting Drake played a role in the m*rder, but rather that investigators failed to pursue a possible angle involving the rapper’s alleged animosity with XXXTentacion.

This new angle is rooted in a long-standing rumor mill within the hip-hop industry. Conspiracy theories about a feud between XXXTentacion and Drake had been circulating even before the artist’s death.
Many speculated that their social media back-and-forth and alleged insults could have escalated to a personal vendetta, leading some to wonder whether Drake’s name should have been investigated further.
However, the theory that Drake was involved in the m*rder is widely seen as a baseless conspiracy, without substantial evidence to support it.
Despite this, Padilla insists that the original investigation overlooked this possibility, which he claims undermines the integrity of the case.
In his filing, Williams’ defense argues that a more thorough investigation could have included Drake, given the media attention surrounding their rumored rivalry.
As this appeal progresses, the question remains: Did investigators miss key leads that could have provided a fuller picture of what led to the m*rder of one of rap's most controversial yet influential figures?
Fans and industry insiders alike will be watching closely as the case unfolds, eager for closure on a mystery that continues to haunt the hip-hop world.
