50 Cent, Angie Martinez + More React To Brittney Griner’s Russian Drug Conviction

Brittney Griner was sentenced to nine years in jail for her Russian drug conviction, prompting reactions from 50 Cent, Angie Martinez, and others in the Hip Hop community.

According to Bloomberg, the imprisoned WNBA star was sentenced on Thursday (August 4) in a court outside Moscow.

She faced up to ten years in prison on drug charges after being arrested in February at a Moscow airport after officials claimed to have discovered a vape containing cannabis oil in her luggage.

Since the news surfaced, several members of the Hip Hop world have spoken out, including 50 Cent, who termed the sentence "crazy" and hinted that it was based on politics.
“This is wild, smh you don’t ever want to get caught up in the politics,” the G-Unit rapper wrote on social media. “They are gonna tell her like 10 years for a vape pin watch.”

Angie Martinez, a Hall of Fame radio broadcaster, called the choice "disgusting and fuckin furious." She also demanded that Griner be returned to the United States.

Martinez said on Instagram, "BRING HER HOME." "Nine years to get oil in a vape pen?! This poor woman is being used as a political pawn, which is disgusting and fucking infuriating!" Meek Mill also reacted to the news, tweeting: "Free BG... Let us fight for her!!!"

Chuck D took to Twitter to express his feelings about the sentence, writing, "I've taken hundreds of artists personnel across the globe... The number one message is to not mess with these governments on anything.

"BG has been used and abused by D-evils. The NRA and image gangsters must understand that the killing machines of war are not a movie. While all we can do is sit and pray."

The widely publicized case has prompted Americans to pressure the Biden Administration to reach an agreement with Russia to bring the WNBA player home. "I call on Russia to free her immediately," President Biden allegedly stated in reaction to the "unacceptable" sentence.

The White House had previously negotiated a prisoner swap with Russia in order to bring Griner home while releasing deadly Russian armaments dealer Viktor Bout. Russia is said to be interested in the agreement.

But, also known as the "Merchant of Death," is currently serving a 25-year prison sentence in America after being convicted of conspiracy to kill US citizens and providing aid to a terrorist organization.
