The rapper 21 Savage's British citizenship was revealed after he was detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in 2019. But besides being associated with Atlanta hip hop, it was revealed that he had been born in London.
According to authorities, the rapper entered the United States with his mother in July 2005, when he would have been 12 years old, and illegally overstayed a visa that expired the following year.
21 Savage has since embraced the jokes about his British heritage, including old-school muskets in the video for his Savage Mode II track "My Dawg." "N-ggas keep saying that UK stuff like I don't have AKs / Like because I was born overseas these muthafuckas ain't gon' spray spray," he raps on the song.
