DO NOT MESS WITH EMINEM
Eminem has a lengthy history of using his music to criticize people. These songs have the potential to have far-reaching consequences for those he targets, including throwing some people out of employment.
Eminem is not to be trifled with. The prominent rapper isn't fond of receiving criticism, whether it's for anything he said in public or the quality of his music. There are a few musicians and celebrities that have caught the rapper's attention for various reasons. They frequently show up in his lyrics presented in an unpleasant light not long after.
MARIAH CAREY :
Eminem made repeated mentions of a supposed romance with Mariah Carey early in his career. When in an interview with Larry King, she disputed it, stating she "hung out" with the rapper and spoken with him "four times." On the Anger Management tour, Eminem retaliated by exposing the crowd voicemails that the 'Fantasy' singer supposedly left him. "Your mind's on us like mine's on Mariah/And y'all are just like her, you're all fucking liars," he rapped on "Jimmy Crack Corn." Later, on 'Bagpipes from Baghdad,' he invited Carey's new husband Nick Cannon into the mix.
Cannon retaliated by writing a blog article on Eminem, which he subsequently removed, while his wife produced 'Obsessed.' The video featured a men stalker dressing up in his trademark black hoodie, despite her claims that the song isn't about the rapper. 'The Warning' was then released by Eminem.
Em brought up his dispute with Carey and Cannon again in 2019 on the Fat Joe and Dre tune 'Lord Above,' which featured Mary J. Blige. "I know me and Mariah didn't end on a high note/But that other dude's whipped, that pussy got him neutered," Em raps on the track.
JA RULE :
Because of his bond with 50 Cent, Eminem accepted his conflict with Ja Rule. "Em, you claim your mother's a crackhead/And Kim is a notorious slut/So what's Hailie going to be when she grows up," Ja sang in a song called "Loose Change." Em went immediately to the studio and released a series of diss tracks directed against Ja, including 'Doe Rae Me (Hailie's Revenge)' and a 50 and Busta Rhymes remix of 2Pac's 'Hail Mary.' Murder Inc. is a company that specializes in solving murders.
The rapper retaliated with a series of songs, the most notable of which being 'Clap Back,' in which he compares Eminem to al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden. Eminem retaliated with a few additional songs, the most notable of which being 'Go-To Sleep' from the Cradle 2 the Grave soundtrack, but the conflict ended in 2004 with the song 'Like Toy Soldiers.'
NICK CANNON :
Slim Shady's feud with Cannon began during his public feud with Mariah Carey, Cannon's ex-wife. Cannon wrote a since-deleted Tumblr post in response to some words in Em's 'Bagpipes from Baghdad,' in which he warned the Detroit icon that he was "taking full action." Things seemed to have calmed down until Cannon resurrected the feud on an episode of T.I.'s ExpidTIously podcast ten years later.
On Fat Joe and Dre's 'Lord Above,' Em went after Cannon, telling him he wasn't going to "do anything" and called Carey a "nutjob." Cannon reacted with 'The Invitation,' a song in which he claimed Eminem bribed a limo driver to keep a video of him having fellatio hidden.
Em responded to the accusation with a tweet that read, "U mad bro? Please don't lie on my dick. "You bougie fuck, I never even had a chauffeur," he said, before demanding an apology from TeenNick's CEO. Cannon followed up with three more songs, including 'The Invitation Canceled,' which sampled Eminem's infamous 'Foolish Pride' single.
JOE BUDDEN :
Joe Budden frequently defended Eminem as co-host of Everyday Struggle, however when it came time for him and his co-hosts to discuss Em's 2017 single 'Walk on Water,' Budden conceded he had lost the debate regarding Em's relevancy, albeit he stayed polite. When Em's 'Revival' album tracklist arrived, tact went out of the window. "The tracklist looks to be absolute crap, even without the benefit of the doubt," Budden stated on the podcast. The 'Pump it Up' rapper had previously called Eminem's 'Revival' single 'Untouchable' "crap" and "among the worst songs I've ever heard," but now he's calling it "one of the worst songs I've ever heard." On the 'Chloraseptic' remix, Eminem responds with a hidden swipe at Budden: "Not as raw as I was, 'Walk on Water sucks/Bitch suck my dick!/Y'all read the tracklist and had a fit 'fore you heard it."
Eminem's surprise album 'Kamikaze' was released in August 2018. On the album's first track, 'The Ringer,' he took a subtle dig at Budden and his podcast co-hosts, but on the second tune, 'Fall,' he didn't hold back, naming Budden by himself and even mentioning his 2014 arrest for charged with assaulting and robbing his ex-girlfriend. Budden reacted to the Detroit rapper on his show, saying he's "been better than you this entire fucking decade!" Eminem was also cautioned that he "live[s] for this sort of garbage."
MACHINE GUN KELLY :
Beef is the basic constituent. Machine Gun Kelly said he was banned from appearing on Eminem's Shade 45 radio station as a result of a tweet he posted in 2012 in which he called Em's daughter Hailie Jade as "hot as fuck." In a 2017 L.A. Leakers freestyle, he mentioned the ban and fired a subliminal shot on Tech N9ne's 'No Reason (The Mosh Pit Song),' before Eminem retaliated with a few jabs on 'Not Alike.' Machine Gun Kelly retaliated with 'Rap Devil,' a song that slammed Eminem on all fronts, slamming his character, his history, his age, and even his selfie game.
Eminem returned eleven days later with 'Killshot,' an unbroken lyrical attack. He laughs at MGK's man bun, calls him a Stan, and even evokes MGK's ex-girlfriend Halsey, in addition to calling him a "tatted-up mumble rapper." MGK launched a couple more minor shots, but Eminem declared he was "moving on" from the dispute on 'Unaccommodating,' a tune off his 2020 surprise album 'Music To Be Murdered By.'
CHRISTINA AGUILERA :
Christina Aguilera revealed the information during her MTV special What A Girl Wants following Eminem married longtime girlfriend Kim in a private wedding in 1999, and also advised women about the risks of physical violence in relations. Em was upset by her spilling the secrets, and he vented his feelings on 'The Real Slim Shady,' saying, "Little bitch put me on blast on MTV/'Yeah, he's cute, but I think he's married to Kim, hee-hee,'/ I should release her audio on MP3/And show the whole world how you got Eminem VD (Argh!)." Before responding with her own diss hit, 'The Real Slim Shady (Please Shut Up),' Aguilera and her team denied the song's accusations that the singer had been sexually engaged with Em.
WILL SMITH :
Will Smith outscored Eminem to win the Best Male Video award at the 1999 MTV Video Music Awards? In his victory speech, he stated that in order to sell records, he did not need to use vulgarities or harass people. "Will Smith don't have to curse in his raps to sell records/Well, I do, so fuck him and fuck you too," Em rapped on "The Real Slim Shady," implying that the remark was directed at him and Dr. Dre. "Dissed by Eminem but didn't bother him/Yup well he classy/Big Will just did another 20 mills'," Smith reacted on 'Mr. Niceguy' five years later.
Something Smith said to Em before he joined with Aftermath, according to DJ Jazzy Jeff, may have started the feud. During a recording session in Philadelphia, the Bad Boys actor came in on Jeff and Em. Em's 'Just the Two of Us,' afterward dubbed "97 Bonnie & Clyde," was played by Jeff. "You're either going to be the biggest flop in hip-hop, or you're going to be the biggest thing that we've ever seen in hip-hop," Smith said simply. Eminem, according to Jeff, "never forgot that."
DEBBIE MATHERS-BRIGGS :
On his debut track, 'My Name Is,' we first learned about Eminem's contempt for his mother, Debbie Mather-Briggs: "I've been lied to for 99 percent of my life/I just found out my mother does more dope than I do." She filed a suit in September 1999, alleging that he disrespected her and demanded $10 million in damages. Em proceeded to call her out on his 2000 album 'The Marshall Mathers LP,' and she retaliated by collaborating with obscure rap duo ID-X on a handful of songs. "Will the genuine Marshall Mathers kindly accept responsibility for his acts and rise up?" 'Dear Marshall (An Open Letter to Eminem)', she inquired.
The case against Mathers-Briggs was settled for $25,000 in August 2001. After the judge ordered that $23,354.25 should go to her old lawyer, Fred Gibson, she received only $1,600. On 'Without Me,' Eminem quickly addressed the deal, saying, "I recently resolved all my lawsuits/Fuck you, Debbie!" Then there's 'Cleanin' Out My Closet,' in which Em paints Mathers-Briggs as a pill-popper, abuser, and opportunist: "But how dare you attempt to steal something you didn't help me get?!/You greedy bitch, I hope you fuckin' burn in hell for this crap!" On 'Headlights,' Em appeared to call a ceasefire with his mother in 2013, saying, "But nevertheless, I don't hate you 'cause, Ma/You're still lovely to me, 'for you're my mom."
