Tory Lanez was found guilty of shooting Megan Thee Stallion, but the rap star's father disagrees with the judgment and has called the trial corrupt.
Lanez was found guilty of all three charges leveled against him in his felony assault trial relating to the shooting of the "Hot Girl Summer" rapper in 2020 on Friday (December 23).
The three offenses were criminal assault with a semiautomatic firearm, concealing and firing a firearm with gross carelessness, and discharging a firearm with gross negligence. Lanez pled not guilty to all three charges.
Jurors determined that he shot at Stallion's feet in a fit of fury during a dispute at the Hollywood Hills house of Kardashian family member Kylie Jenner.
Tory Lanez, who chose not to testify, may face up to 22 years in jail and deportation to Canada. The sentencing date is set for January 27, 2023.
"We will consider all alternatives, including an appeal," said Lanez's defense lawyer, George Mgdesyan, in a statement.
“We are shocked by the verdict. There was not sufficient evidence to convict Mr. Peterson. We believe this case was not proven beyond a reasonable doubt. We will be exploring all options including an appeal,” Lanez’s defense lawyer George Mgdesyan said in a statement.
Tory Lanez's father, Sonstar Peterson, showed his displeasure with the verdict both inside and outside the Los Angeles courthouse where his son was convicted.
Sonstar, according to Rolling Stone, called the judicial system "wicked" and singled out two prosecutors in particular. "You two, you are wicked, you are evil," he yelled before being escorted out of the courtroom.
Meghann Cuniff, a Law & Crime reporter who attended the trial, described it as a "crazy and downright scary scene in the courtroom as [Tory Lanez's] father and stepmother screamed about [wicked] injustice."
A footage from The Shade Room later appeared of Sonstar outside the courthouse making a passionate message to media, in which he targeted Megan Thee Stallion's management organization Roc Nation and its creator, JAY-Z.

"I just stood here in this Los Angeles and witnessed the worst miscarriage of justice that this world has ever seen. "If you want to know how I feel, I'll tell you exactly how I feel," Sonstar said.
He also read out such a list of names which included Megan's lawyer Alex Spiro, Desiree Perez the COO of Roc Nation, "and the whole wicked system of Roc Nation, including you JAY-Z.
"You who say you rose from the gutter, but you have traded and bartered the souls of young men, and you're still doing it," he added.
