With a trial date of January 9, 2023, XXXTentacion's 2018 murder in South Florida will be brought to justice. However, one of the co-defendants accused of the murder has increased his plea to subpoena Drake, with his lawyer issuing a formal request to have Drake and Akademiks testify in court, citing their suspected participation.
Mauricio Padilla, the attorney for Dedrick Williams, one of four individuals accused of fatally shooting XXXTentacion, asked Broward County Circuit Judge Michael Usan to summon Drake and DJ Akademiks.
According to the filed paper, “The testimony of the said Aubrey Drake Graham is material to the case, and it is necessary to take the deposition of the said Aubrey Drake Graham to prevent the failure of justice.”
Before his death, Drake and XXXTencion had a falling out, with X accusing Drizzy of copying his style. Williams' attorney now claims that Drake mentioned X's murder in the song "On BS." Padilla added Akademiks to his subpoena list because he claims Ak speaks about the issue on his platform on a daily basis.
"Mr. Allen, who goes by the stage name 'DJ Akademiks,' posted his podcast on December 21 wherein he openly discusses the case, acknowledges being served, and states, 'I am not showing up to court to talk to y'all n****s.' Nothing short of a court order will secure Mr. Allen's attendance in a deposition," the request stated.
