French Montana Pledges $100,000 to Morocco Earthquake Relief Fund

Following a devastating 6.9 magnitude earthquake in Morocco, native rapper French Montana has taken a proactive stance by setting up an emergency fund. This announcement was made during the 2023 MTV VMAs, where French Montana, partnered with Global Citizen and CARE, declared his commitment to providing vital relief for those affected by the calamity. The artist, born and raised in Casablanca, Morocco, will be contributing a substantial $100,000 to the cause.

Expressing his compassion, Montana stated, "I want to spread some love and light to Morocco they've been hit with a big earthquake. I'm setting up an emergency fund with Global Citizen.org/Morocco, and I will be donating myself."
This emergency fund is geared towards aiding the most vulnerable groups, encompassing women, girls, youth, and disadvantaged communities. The funds will facilitate critical support such as water, food, shelter, and medical assistance.

The earthquake, registering at 6.8 on the Richter scale, has resulted in a tragic loss of 2,901 lives, with 5,530 individuals sustaining injuries. International search and rescue teams from Britain, Spain, and Qatar are collaborating with the Moroccan military in the ongoing efforts, although prospects of finding additional survivors are dwindling.

French Montana's personal connection to Morocco is profound, having emigrated to the South Bronx with his family at the age of 13. Initially fluent only in Moroccan Darija Arabic and French, he later acquired proficiency in English through immersion in street life and formal education.

Since 2017, the rapper has been actively involved with Global Citizen. Notably, during a trip to Uganda to shoot the music video for "Unforgettable" featuring Swae Lee, he generously donated $100,000 to the Suubi Health Center. This initiative spurred the launch of the #2BStrong petition in collaboration with Global Citizen, advocating for the prioritization of universal health coverage within the African Union.
