Machine Gun Kelly Opens Up About Daughter’s Impact on His Sobriety Journey

Machine Gun Kelly recently opened up about a profoundly emotional conversation with his daughter that played a pivotal role in his journey to sobriety.

Appearing on the Million Dollaz Worth of Game podcast hosted by Gillie Da Kid and Wallo, he revealed how his daughter, Casie, confronted him about his drug use, igniting a transformative desire for change.

Reflecting on their talk, Kelly shared:

“It started with my daughter saying, ‘Dad, you know I can tell when you’re high?’ It broke my heart. It was like… the ultimate letdown”
At the time of the conversation, Casie was just 11 or 12 years old, making the realization all the more impactful for the rapper.

MGK Shares Emotional Story of How His Daughter Helped Him Overcome Addiction:

He elaborated on the struggles that kept him trapped in addiction, describing drugs as having a "vice grip" on him. Kelly also recounted his upbringing, explaining:

“It took me a while afterwards because obviously, you know, drugs have a vice grip on you. Also, I grew up in a house where being somebody else was beaten into me […] because you aren’t who your father wants you to be, and really that’s a reflection of him not being who he wanted to be.”

He acknowledged that the pressure to conform stemmed from his father's unfulfilled aspirations.

“That was step one for me. As a father and as a man, to be the father I wish my dad would have been, I have to break this generational curse for my kid.”

Earlier this month, Machine Gun Kelly revealed that he had checked himself into rehab in 2023, successfully celebrating a year of sobriety.

“I’m completely sober from everything. I don’t drink anymore. I haven’t drank since last August”

He stated on Bunnie XO’s Dumb Blonde podcast, marking a significant milestone in his life.

As he continues to share his journey, Kelly’s story resonates with many, showcasing the importance of personal accountability and the impact of family on overcoming addiction.

The rapper's openness about his struggles serves as inspiration for others navigating similar paths in the world of hip-hop and beyond.
