Odell Beckham Jr. Responds to Drake Dance Backlash and Reveals Why He Sides with Drake in Kendrick Lamar Feud

Odell Beckham Jr. Addresses Viral Backlash Over Dancing to Drake’s ‘Family Matters’ and Explains Why He Sides with Drake

Odell Beckham Jr. is no stranger to the spotlight, but even he didn’t expect a light-hearted moment in his car to spark a social media firestorm.

The NFL star recently opened up in an interview with Complex, breaking his silence on a viral video of him vibing to Drake’s “Family Matters“, which stirred unexpected controversy and even deeper conversations about his loyalty amid the Drake vs. Kendrick Lamar beef.

What started as a private joke intended for a friend quickly turned into a trending topic.

The clip, which showed OBJ dancing casually to Drake’s diss track, made waves across hip-hop Twitter, with fans reading between the lines, and often, reading too much.

OBJ sat down with Complex recently and was asked about the backlash he received online after he posted the video and his thoughts on the back-and-forth between his close friend Drake and Kendrick Lamar that had the rap game in a chokehold for the last year-plus.

He said before explaining that the video wasn’t necessarily meant to be posted:

“I support bro through all of what he’s going through … And that video was even a joke that I sent to my boy Chris. It wasn’t even a video that I thought was going anywhere because it’s like, ‘Yo, we’re trying to get some stuff for TikTok.’”

But once the video began circulating, so did commentary—some of it off-base and invasive. Online reactions turned personal, with some making assumptions about Odell’s appearance and sexuality.

“And that video gets out … Then I’m in a tie-dye shirt, and they make it all kinds of stuff. That’s when I fall back to like…when I say, I really know who I am? Like stop it. Whatever you may think, I know who I am.”

Odell Beckham Jr. Reacts to Criticism After Viral Dance to Drake’s ‘Family Matters’ and Shows Support for Drake:

Beyond the video, OBJ also weighed in on the Drake and Kendrick Lamar feud that took over the rap industry.

The lyrical war between the two megastars produced headline-grabbing diss tracks like “Not Like Us” and “Family Matters”, with fans and artists alike choosing sides or staying silent.

“I listened, I thought it was great. I told him that to his face … But at the end of the day, you’re talking about Drake, he’s one of very few. I don’t know necessarily know how that played out in his life…that’s for him to learn and go through.”

He continued by acknowledging Kendrick’s musical greatness but confirmed his ongoing support for Drake.

“I had always supported that side, I had always shown up, I had always done that. Before their little beef, had I listened to Kendrick’s stuff? Yeah, Kendrick’s a great artist. I love music. Music is what makes me, me. Since I was little.”

Odell Beckham Jr.’s response to the viral moment and the rap feud shows a man who’s both self-assured and unafraid to stand by his people.

In a world where every move is dissected online, OBJ made it clear he’s not here to explain himself to strangers or engage in narratives that don’t align with his truth.

By standing firm in his identity and remaining loyal to Drake, while still showing respect for Kendrick Lamar’s artistry, he proved you can stay grounded, even when caught in the crossfire of hip-hop’s biggest beef.
