Lil Yachty Reflects on ‘Friendly Beef’ With Migos: “It Became Like a Friendly Beef” | WhatsOnRap

Lil Yachty Revealed That Quavo Was “Mean”

When Lil Yachty first joined the Quality Control Music label, he found himself navigating a dynamic of friendly competition, particularly with Quavo of Migos, who, according to Yachty, used to be “mean” to him. Opening up on the A Safe Space podcast with QC co-founders Coach K and P, Yachty reminisced about the early days when he felt the need to keep up with the Migos trio in everything, from cars and jewelry to women and clothes.

“Quavo used to be so mean to me!” Yachty explained, reflecting on the playful rivalry.“Quavo got a new chain, I had to get a new chain. Offset got a new chain, I get a new chain. TakeOff get a new watch, I would go and get a new watch.” He added: “I used to always feel like everyone was trying to little bro me. At first, they thought I was weird as shit. They was like, ‘This n-gga is weird as fuck.’”

Despite the initial challenges, Yachty acknowledged the warmth he received from a few artists on the label. Skippa Da Flippa and Rich The Kid were among the first to show support and collaborate with him. Yachty particularly emphasized the kindness of TakeOff, who welcomed him with open arms from the moment they met.

While Lil Yachty’s journey with Quality Control started with some playful rivalry and skepticism, he has since become an integral part of the label. Although he stirred controversy earlier this year by expressing concerns about the state of hip-hop, his evolving career and diverse musical ventures continue to shape the rap landscape.
